An Institutional Review Board or IRB is a diverse group of scientific and non-scientific individuals who conduct the initial and ongoing review of clinical research studies in order to ensure the protection of the rights, safety and well-being of human subjects participating in those trials. The Code of Federal Regulations Title 21, Part 50 and 56 and Title 45 CFR Part 46 governs the composition and conduct of IRBs.
