CPTC was established in 1957 by Paul J. Wham, Jr., becoming the first independently owned physical therapy private practice in Sacramento. Shortly thereafter, his practice was known as St. Luke's Physical Therapy during the 28 years it was located in the medical building of the same name. Management of the practice was turned over to his daughter Robin Wham in 1982, which led to her purchase of the practice in 1984. Incorporation and returning to the original name of Capitol Physical Therapy Center, along with its relocation to its original location at 1308 28th Street brought the practice's evolution full circle.
